The Houston Centre for Humanity and the Common Good will host a public evening lecture on October 8, 2026 at Regent College (Vancouver, BC). Dr. Dennis Danielson will speak on “Cosmology and Misanthropology: The Unscientific Denigration of Humanity in the Name of Science.” From the event description: “What does our planet’s smallness imply for our and Earth’s ‘place’ and meaning within the cosmic scheme? For centuries, there has been a tendency among scientists to read earthly smallness as entailing triviality or insignificance. Prof. Danielson’s lecture will illustrate the persistence of this glib tendency and offer tools for reimagining Earth’s and humankind’s significance despite their cosmic smallness.”

This event includes a pre-lecture reception. For more details and to register, visit the event page.

Dr. Dennis Danielson is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of British Columbia. His most recent book is the coauthored volume A Universe of Earths: Our Planet and Other Worlds, from Copernicus to NASA.
