Chesterton scholar Dale Ahlquist compiled G. K. Chesterton’s own words about his life and writing from hundreds of sources to create a new “autobiography,” I Also Had My Hour: An Alternative Autobiography of G. K. Chesterton (Ignatius Press, 2025). In this interview, Ahlquist discusses finding source material that hadn’t been seen in a century and the fresh perspectives it reveals on Chesterton’s life and thinking. He and Ken talk about Chesterton’s particular genius in his essays, which he wrote using the techniques of mystery stories in order to shock his readers with the truth. This interview is a celebration of the prolific writer who was larger than life and bursting with it.
