Historian John Lukacs died on May 6, 2019, at the age of 95. This Friday Feature presents portions of a 2005 interview with him about his book, Democracy and Populism: Fear and Hatred. In this interview, Lukacs discusses the recording of the past and the importance of articulate, honest language for that task. A Hungarian who immigrated to the United States in 1946, Lukacs spent his career teaching and writing. All of his works demonstrate one of the main traits necessary for studying history — curiosity.
