In this July 2026 lecture, D. C. Schindler explores Plato’s ideas on education to argue that the essence of education is a revolution — a complete turning-around — of the soul toward God, reality, and the self. With this understanding, Schindler says, the tension between education as transformation and education as a handing-on of tradition can be reconciled. He explains how it takes courage, virtue, and magnanimity to turn away from the “chaos of pure sensation” to face reality, and he encourages educators in their role as they guide and nurture students toward ultimate Reality — that is, God.
